No, I lie. In this case it means that the story started out as a role-playing scenario set up in the Star Wars universe. It was, at the time, the most free-form RPG I had ever run. It took dramatic turns I never expected and, in doing so, we drastically changed the Star Wars universe. In writing it into a narrative form, I realized that the story no longer fit.
So, while there are some things in it that will stand out as blatantly from the movies and such, there are other things which will only appear to be inspired, if even that.
So why write it?
Because I enjoyed the scenario and I think the guys who contributed to the story deserve to have the characters they worked so hard to craft remembered in some way. I may not see those guys anymore. I do not even talk to them on a regular basis, but I think of them very fondly.
